Well-suited to a newly qualified accountant, this role is an interesting and varied role within one of Centrica’s core business units. Reporting to the Financial Controller, Services, you will gain experience of working for a business unit within a large corporate entity.

You will be responsible for the reporting the CBS UK&I Services business in JD Edwards and SAP, ensuring that the highest standards of financial control are applied across the business. You will also have allocated responsibilities for financial accounting, financial controls, financial governance and financial integrity.

You will provide robust and accurate financial reporting of current and historical performance and will work with the business teams, facilitating interaction and knowledge transfer where required between the business teams and wider finance teams. Identifying opportunities to pursue simplification, automation and integration of processes to drive efficiencies throughout the finance team is a key part of your new role.

The Role

You will have some of the following accountabilities in your new role:

• Responsible for the end-to-end P&L, cash flow, balance sheet, consolidation and reporting of financial data for the CBS UK&I Services business in the local JDE Ledgers and SAP
• Accountable for all transactional accounting & reporting of current/historical activity across CBS UK&I Services including coordination and performance of all of month end and post-month end accounting activities
• Month end accountability, to include journal posting, PO accruals, provisions, capex accounting, commentary on monthly performance and query resolution
• Carrying out balance sheet reviews and reconciliations across the Services business, pro-actively identifying and communicating risks and opportunities upwards
• Accountable for ensuring all Centrica accounting policies are adhered to for CBS UK&I Services
• Support on audit and statutory account production for CBS legal entities in the UK
• Understand and apply appropriate Centrica accounting policies across CBS, including detailed knowledge of IFRS 15 and IFRS 16 to accurately account for customer contracts
• Pro-actively identify improvements to our processes and opportunities for simplification, standardisation, automation and integration of financial systems. Drive towards automated and enhanced reporting, leveraging Office365 tools (e.g. Power Query, Power BI)
• Support finance system upgrade and ERP implementation and data migration as part of the CBS systems strategy
• Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in the business and Finance
• Act as part of the first line of defence in the identification and management of risks
• Undertake bespoke reporting and analysis as required

The Person

We would like you to have some of the following experience and competencies for this role:

• Have recently completed an Accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
• Have some experience of working on finance systems ideally SAP
• Work quickly and accurately under pressure in order to meet tight deadlines.
• Be intellectually curious about the energy retail environment. Absorb multiple issues and complexity; respond well to change
