Admissions Officer

The opportunity

Cardiff Metropolitan University is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Admissions Officer to support the activities of a busy centralised Admissions Unit. The post holder will assist with all processes concerned with the admittance of students to the university, as well as manage social media channels with the aim of facilitating applicant conversion.

The successful person should have experience in a similar role and be used to working in a busy environment, providing an excellent level of service to applicants, staff and external bodies. Knowledge and understanding of Higher Education Admissions and the Student recruitment process is preferred. Similar administrative experience and skills will be considered.

You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication, and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent applicant experience. Communication and attention to detail are requirements for the post.

Cardiff Met is at an exciting stage of development in relation to a new student system, which will change processes to improve both the applicants and student journey. It is therefore an ideal time to join the team to contribute to this development.

What you’ll do – key duties

• Process and making decisions on student applications from UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) in line with Cardiff Met admissions policy and intake targets. Also assisting with the processing of Postgraduate, Part Time and Research applications.
• Assist with the managing of current social media channels and other future channels for Admissions to facilitate applicant conversion.
• To be the Liaison Officer for Tutors, Course Directors and Deans of Schools - providing advice and guidance on admissions policy and procedures.
• To prepare and report on statistical data and disseminate to course tutors as required.
• Contribute to the arrangements and administration for Confirmation and Clearing.
• To sensitively handle and respond to requests for feedback, queries on offers and complaints; using appropriate communication media – by telephone, email, letter/
• Advising applicants and external organisations on Cardiff Met’s admissions policy and procedures.
• Continually monitor and evaluating processes and system, making recommendations for improvement where necessary.

What you’ll bring – essential experience & strengths

• Applicants must have experience in a similar administrative role, with knowledge and understanding of University Admissions and Student Recruitment processes. Knowledge and understanding of UCAS, Qualifications, and both undergraduate and postgraduate admissions is also required.
• You will be well organised and have a methodical approach with attention to detail. Well- developed time management, organisational and problem solving skills are required.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team are essential, as the role involves developing good working relationships with internal and external colleagues at all levels.
• Good organisational skills and a methodical approach is required, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent applicant experience.

What you’ll have - essential qualifications

• Educated to HND/degree level or equivalent or substantial relevant experience in a similar role.
