The team
ITV Cymru Wales plays a vital role in the lives of people across the country, providing high quality, trustworthy news coverage about Wales for television and online audiences.
This is your chance to develop your skills as an editorial decision maker within a fast-paced national newsroom, producing & planning distinctive, engaging content and programming.
You will work alongside an experienced team of journalists, production specialists and camera operators, who are eager to tell the stories that matter to our audience.
The role
ITV Cymru Wales is looking for an experienced journalist to join the newsdesk team as an Assistant Content Editor based in the Cardiff newsroom.
This is an opportunity for an experienced journalist who wishes to gain further experience as a decision-maker on our newsdesk whilst also supporting our Programme & Digital Editor and managers leading our news team.
The successful candidate is likely to show potential, creativity and flair in at least two of our core content editor skills: producing and assistant producing our flagship news programme Wales at Six; digital editing; news editing and/or planning. You will support the Digital Content Editor in their role and at times may cover where required. You will also be asked to produce out of hours bulletins and train others, when required. The role is ideally suited for someone looking to take their first step into editorial and people management.
You will either be a qualified journalist, to NCTJ level or equivalent, or have a real depth of experience gained by working within a multi-media news operation. You will be a confident communicator who is highly organised and able to coordinate our day to day newsgathering, speaking to our reporters, contributors and briefing our news crews. You will also be a creative and visual storyteller, who knows what we need to make our news content engaging and relevant to our audience online and on air.
With your thorough knowledge of legal, Ofcom compliance and Health and Safety guidelines and your excellent editorial judgement, you will be able to make informed decisions confidently and to tight deadlines.
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and you possess the journalistic and people management skills that will help us achieve our goals, then we’d love to hear from you.
To apply, please upload your CV together with a concise letter of application. Please outline why you want this role and what you would bring to the news team as an Assistant Content Editor.
Together with senior production journalists looking to make that next step in their career, we would also welcome applications from candidates with strong on-screen reporting experience to offer in combination with a production, planning or news editing role.
