Part A –Royal College of Surgeons Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Attendance at the three committee meetings per annum
• Involvement in Core Surgical Training ARCP’s

Part B - Associate Director of PGME SRFT

1. Specific Areas of Responsibility:

• ENT, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Spinal, Urology and Anaesthetics

2. Support the DPGME in achieving key responsibilities in own area:

• Responsibility for advising the organisation on achieving GMC standards for postgraduate medical education
• Provide leadership to address the immediate and future challenges of delivering education and training in an environment impacted by Covid-19
• Support and monitor the SCO PGME wellbeing strategy
• Support the DPGME ‘s vision for the organisation on postgraduate medical education matters.
• To produce, implement and monitor a strategy for the provision of postgraduate medical education and training in line with GMC standards.
• Align postgraduate medical training and education with the service objectives as defined by the Trust Board or equivalent.
• Represent the organisation for postgraduate medical education issues, both externally and internally.
• Ensure trainees undergo and complete appropriate induction programmes.
• To facilitate and monitor the effectiveness of postgraduate medical education across the Trust.
• Ensure the quality of education is evaluated and improved.
• Ensure medical educators meet the appropriate GMC standard for trainers.

Main duties of the job

The role of RCS Surgical Tutor at SRFT is embedded within the role of Associate Director of Postgraduate Medical Education for Surgery, the responsibilities of the roles dovetail to ensure the delivery of high-quality training across the Division of Surgery & Surgical Neurosciences. The post holder is responsible delivering the outcomes aligned to the Surgical Tutor role (identified below in part A) and for supporting the SRFT Director of Postgraduate Medical Education to ensure education & training is embedded and quality assured in the surgical Division
