Due to continued growth and new client acquisitions, we are looking for someone to join us at Onstate as a frontend Shopify developer.
Onstate is a leading ecommerce agency based in Leeds, England. We’ve been at the forefront of delivering effective ecommerce solutions since 2010.
We are one of a small number of Shopify Plus Partner Agencies in the UK. We’re recognised for our no-nonsense, practical approach to solving ecommerce problems for our clients.
Some of the companies we partner with are well-known brands like Mamas and Papas and Issey Miyake, as well as luxury fashion and jewellery brands like Crockett & Jones and Ronald Abram.
We are a friendly bunch based on the Calls in the heart of Leeds. We currently work a flexible hybrid model of working.
Everyone gets a tailored learning and development plan, as you would expect, and we’re keen to support people in their ongoing development. Some of the team have side hustles, and we’re supportive of these; we’re an ambitious bunch and love to see entrepreneurial spirit.

The role
Onstate's development team are the engine room of our technology provision. They make real the vision of our creative output and provide accessible, performant, converting Shopify themes and systems integrations.
They understand how to turn eye-catching designs into performant, accessible, standards-based Shopify themes that convert for clients. They are focused on quality, efficiency and profitability. They understand what is needed to ensure that their work is delivered on time and on budget.
This role will work closely with the creative and project management teams. You will report to the Head of Technology & Operations.
A typical day as a developer at Onstate begins with the daily stand-up, where we address any blockers to the allocated work for the delivery teams.
From there, you’ll conduct various activities. You'll be communicating project progress updates with the project managers against project deadlines. Using a mix of technologies to craft customised Shopify solutions. You could be performing tasks to augment existing functionality or, indeed, fixing the odd bug that has arisen. You may also be putting your programming and problem-solving skills to use creating Shopify apps, functions or middleware solutions.
You will also work with your colleagues across the software development lifecycle and contribute to ideas, workshops, scoping and estimating of new project briefs. You'll work with several clients and their projects and briefs.
You’ll work on a mix of retained and project work that covers discovery, design, build and post-delivery marketing. Whilst you won't be responsible for all of those aspects of our work, you may well be asked for help and advice by the other departments.
You will also assist the management team with continuous process review and improvement. You will also contribute to creating specifications, user guides and other appropriate documentation needed for our clients.
About you
The person we’re looking for is progress-focused with a respectful and collaborative approach. You are a great communicator, open to new ideas and an eternally curious learner.
