Who are we

Outward Hounds is a unique, independent dog walking and daycare business serving Exeter and the surrounding areas. We provide one-of-a-kind adventure walks in the beautiful Devon countryside for our dogs as well as home daycare where our pups receive all of the love and attention that they deserve. We are passionate about the dogs in our care and want them to have the best day out with us.

The role
We are looking for a reliable individual to help us with walking the dogs in a small pack environment and occasionally caring for the daycare dogs in the afternoons. The right candidate will have to be able to work effectively on their own, following our direction but also be able to work as a part of our small and dedicated team. We are looking for someone who is able to commit long term in order to build a good relationship between the walker and the dogs. You must be happy to be out in all weather, get muddy and help with the messy parts of the job. The position is part-time (3x 4hr morning shifts, 9am-1pm M, W, F) but with the possibility of increasing hours in the future.

Main duties

• Collect and drop home dogs across Exeter
• Walk dogs outside in all weathers
• Ensure the safety of the dogs and anyone else around them at all times
• Communicate with owners about the dog’s day
• Take high-quality photographs of the dogs whilst out on the walk
• Walk up to 6 dogs off lead at one time in rural locations once training has been completed
• Understand special requests and specific conditions for each dog, and treat them all with love and attention
• Removal of pet waste and disposing of accordingly
• Wipe paws/clean and towel dry wet dogs after a walk
• Follow instructions but also be able to think on their feet and make decisions when it comes to dealing with unexpected problems/situations that may occur during a walk

Requirements

• Professional experience in walking and caring for dogs preferred but not essential as full training will be provided
• Candidates need to be able to lift, exercise and handle dogs competently
• Be physically fit and able to walk for long periods across all terrains
• Full, clean UK driving license
• Confident working with a range of different breeds and sizes of dogs
• Presentable and punctual with good communication skills
• Phone with access to the internet
• Canine First aid trained

Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 12 per week

Salary: From £10.42 per hour
