Health Care Assistant in a GP Practice

French Weir Health Centre is a busy Practice looking after 16,000 patients in the heart of Taunton. We are looking to recruit a part time Healthcare Assistant to work 24 hours over three days; Monday, Thursday, Friday.

The successful applicant will join our friendly and supportive and established nursing team comprising 6 Practice Nurses, 3 HCAs and a phlebotomist. The role will involve working in a consulting room environment with your own booked patient list. Some shifts will be carried out in the Community Investigation Hub, which is on the French Weir Health Centre site.

Our nursing team works closely with and supports the clinical team including 10 GPs, 2 Nurse Practitioners, 3 Emergency Care Practitioners, 3 Musculoskeletal Practitioners. We are a training practice and encourage professional development for all our staff.

Main duties of the job:

• Removing sutures and clips
• Simple dressings/wound care
• Flu and Pneumococcal vaccinations under PSD and Practice protocol
• Phlebotomy
• Perform ECGs
• Taking blood pressures
• Urine testing
• Assist with minor ops
• Assist with coil and LARCS implants
• Doppler assessments
• Stock control of nursing supplies
• Cold chain monitoring
• Any other clinical tasks as may be reasonably required

(Important - the post holder is only required to undertake tests and procedures. Any interpretation of clinical outcomes is the responsibility of the trained nurse or GP)

Administration tasks

• Sending specimens to the laboratory
• Use of computer for recording and obtaining information
• Completion of forms
• Restocking of disposable clinical equipment and forms
• Checking emergency equipment and supplies
• Cleaning of medical equipment and instruments
• Cleaning and preparation of treatment rooms
• Other administration duties as required

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 24 per week
