The Role
Tata Steel Distribution UK & Ireland (TSDUK&I) are based at the Steelpark in Wednesfield, it is the largest steel processing facility in the UK. TSDUK&I also have facilities in Llanwern, South Wales and Lisburn in Northern Ireland. Across the business we process all forms of strip steel products and manufacture components such as safety barriers.
The Higher Manufacturing apprentice will be based at Heavy Gauge Decoiling, Llanwern in Newport. Heavy Gauge Decoiling is focused on supplying hot-rolled sheet for a wide variety of market applications. It employs two decoilers to process the full range of Tata Steel hot-rolled coil.
The Higher Manufacturing Apprentices will undertake a range of duties to support the Manufacturing Operations. They will work within the businesses to learn all about the varied processes within Heavy Gauge Decoiling at Llanwern. Working within the manufacturing teams to support the delivery of team objectives, the higher apprentices will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
The Apprenticeship
During the 2 year apprenticeship you will spend a significant amount of time learning about the business. You will develop key skills and knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental practices, our products, our customers and the local IT systems. In addition to this you will learn about the Manufacturing Operations- specifically process operations, material handling, warehousing, quality, and continuous improvement techniques whilst also becoming familiar with the plant and equipment on site. The duties apprentices undertake will be geared around learning the required skills and knowledge to become a fully competent member of the team.
Typically this role involves:
The Manufacturing Apprentices will gain exposure to different areas of the Distribution business and will rotate around the different manufacturing processes. They will also develop an understanding of the commercial aspects of processing and manufacturing.
During your 2 year apprenticeship you will also study for further qualifications to Level 4.
The Candidate
Candidates who have, or are expected to achieve, 5 GCSE or equivalent (including English Language, Maths and Science) at Grades A* - C or level 4-9
And
Who have or are expected to achieve 2 A Levels at grade C or above are eligible to apply. Maths would be advantageous.
Good IT skills including competency using Excel would be an advantage.
