Healthcare Scientist Support Worker

We are looking for a Food Water & Environmental (FW&E) Laboratory Support Worker to join the microbiology laboratory based at York Biotech Campus. You'll be involved in testing samples implicated in regional & national cases of food & water borne illnesses to assist with surveillance, outbreak investigations & legal proceedings. The laboratory participates in proactive & reactive testing to investigate areas of interest, such as novel food groups & emerging public health threats.

Experience of working in a Food/Water/Containment Level 2 laboratory would be advantageous, but full training will be provided. As a FW&E Laboratory Support Worker you will perform a range of tasks, including: reception/preparation of samples, sample examination & updating laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

UKHSA FW&E services are provided from three laboratories (located in York, London, & Porton). The FW&E Microbiology Laboratories are specialist microbiology laboratories within the UKHSA Science Group. The York FW&E Laboratory provides a microbiology testing & advisory service to Local Authorities, Port Health Authorities, hospitals & commercial clients for the North of England. The laboratory is accredited to ISO 17025 & is recognised as an Official Food Control Laboratory for the microbiological examination of food & foodstuffs within the EU.
