Bluebells at Bradfield Woods – Alex Lack

This is an exciting opportunity to join our West Suffolk reserves team and manage some of our spectacular nature reserves to help us deliver our vision for a wilder Suffolk.

Bradfield Woods is one of Britain’s finest ancient woodlands and a glorious haven for wildlife. This working wood is unique as it has been under continuous traditional coppice management since 1252. We have maintained this tradition to deliver for wildlife. The extensive ride system supports an array of small mammals including dormouse as well as insects such as silver washed fritillary, purple hairstreak and white admiral. There are numerous ponds and glades as well as a medieval meadow that all bring ecological value to this special 70 hectare site.

The wider West Suffolk Woodlands are managed out of Bradfield and boast a similar range of species and heritage. Each woodland is unique and managed to support and safeguard their fantastic features such as the small leaved lime or hornbeam stands, scalloped ride and scrubby edges as well as diverse high woodland canopy.

We are looking for a committed team player with a passion for nature to help us manage these Woodlands and the immediate landscape as a connected network for wildlife.

The West Suffolk Woodlands Assistant Warden is a key member of the Reserves Team and will support the West Warden to achieve the successful delivery of conservation management at Bradfield Woods and other Woodlands and reserves in West Suffolk.

You will assist in the development and leadership of teams of volunteers, work with our interns and achieve excellent conservation management in accordance with the Trust’s conservation objectives. Where practicable you will be expected to travel to other sites to support colleagues carrying out seasonal work.

You will ensure accessibility and a welcoming atmosphere at all our reserves. Your friendly and engaging manner will help ensure all reserve visitors have a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.
