About the Job:

Library and Learning Resources are seeking to appoint a part time Library Advisor (18.5 hours, Monday AM, Tuesday and Wednesday). As part of the Customer Services team, you will provide high-quality customer focused service to staff and students at BCU.

Having been accredited with the national Customer Services Excellence Award, we are seeking to build on our current provision to offer an exceptional front facing service.

You will be responsible for delivering excellent customer care, at the point of need for all library customers and you will act as the first point of contact for all enquiries within the library spaces and online.

Main Responsibilities:

You will:

  • Be proactive in welcoming all library customers; identifying their individual needs, providing a quality service and enabling customers to make full use of the resources available.
  • Interact with customers throughout their visit and assist them with the use of equipment and discovery tools.
  • Assist in maintaining a conducive learning environment through monitoring the use of the library and ensuring the shelves and spaces are tidy.
  • Provide and help organise an efficient library service under the direction of the Library Supervisor, ensuring that agreed standards of service are (as a minimum) met.

Skills and experience:

You should have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
  • Proven experience in the delivery of high-quality customer services, (library experience desirable in this context but not essential)
  • A commitment to the provision of customer care which not only meets but exceeds customer expectations
  • The ability to cope with an environment of change
  • The ability to innovate
  • A high degree of organisational ability
  • A methodical approach to work with good attention to detail

Library and Learning Resources provides services at several University campus locations across the city and across extended hours. A variety of shift patterns between 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday, will be applicable and the ability to undertake duties at different campus library locations will be required.

For informal queries please contact Margaret Ettle, Library Supervisor (margaret.ettle@bcu.ac.uk)

We encourage applications from BCU 2022/3 graduates or recent Alumni as part of the Graduate 'Grow Your Own' programme. As part of this programme, you will receive additional support in the form of tailored learning to support your transition from student to working professional.

Please contact the Careers+ team for support with the application process to ensure the best chance of success. Email: careers@bcu.ac.uk for more information and to arrange a consultation.

In return we offer a generous pension and annual leave provision. We also operate a hybrid working model that allows staff to combine on-site and remote working where appropriate, dependent on work duties. We also provide access to excellent facilities on campus, including supportive family friendly policies
