About the role:
We have a great opportunity for a Legal Counsel – Compliance to join the General Counsel team in Birmingham.
This role is required to ensure that the firm meets all of its legal, regulatory & professional obligations, and operates in such a way as to minimise so far as possible the risk of claims or sanctions.
Within this role your main responsibilities will be:
About you:
We are looking for someone who has strong communication skills, confident and experienced in advising senior lawyers on difficult compliance issues and capable of delivering complex information at all levels. You will have strong IT skills, including Word, Excel and Power Point, enabling independent delivery of tasks.
You will need to have the ability to understand & interpret complex law in a variety of areas drawing on a working knowledge of relevant legislation (such as the Proceeds of Crime Act, Solicitors Act, Data Protection Act, Money Laundering Regulations, International sanctions legislation and the Solicitors Regulation Authority Standards and Regulations, anti-bribery and corruption legislation, conflicts of interest) and an awareness of the possible implications/relevance in relation to common law, contract and/or tort.
