Motor Transport Driver

RNAS Culdrose is one of two Air Stations within the Fleet Air Arm. Our primary purpose is to provide maritime helicopters that can deliver power from the sea. The unique opportunities offered within Culdrose are varied, challenging and exciting while supporting Navy Command’s role to generate and operate forces for today and to ensure we are ready for tomorrow, by developing the Navy of the future.

The Motor Transport (MT) Section sits within the Logistics Department at RNAS Culdrose and is looking to recruit an experienced driver holding a DVLA Cat D license as a minimum.

Are you willing to be flexible to support the Air Station and its Naval Air Squadrons in the local area and around the UK? The MT Section provides passenger and freight transport in addition to airfield support services in the form of Foreign Object debris (FOD) clearance and an airfield ambulance.

This successful candidate will start on days (0700-1530 Mon - Thur & 0700-1345 Fri only). Occasional weekend/overtime work may be available.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

The successful applicant will work with a team of drivers supporting RNAS Culdrose, its operations and visiting ships in the local area. They will be required to:

• Drive specialist airfield support vehicles, passenger and freight vehicles including coaches and heavy goods, (rigid and articulated), in accordance with national laws, MOD regulations and local standing orders.
• Demonstrate a willingness to be adaptable and undertake planned or short notice overtime, sometimes at weekends.
• Carry out long distance journeys with some overnight stays away from the unit.
• Complete pre and post use vehicle documentation and checks. Demonstrating continued currency on vehicle types and responsibility for load and security.
• Carry out basic vehicle maintenance and husbandry or valeting.
• During all tasks, wearing the appropriate PPE or formal clothing if driving high ranking officers for official functions.
• A rostered working pattern is in place, of which the post holder may be required to work.

• Full - clean DVLA driving licence is essential and to include the following categories:
• Cat B - Essential
• Cat D - essential
• Cat C/C+E - highly desirable

The following driving related qualifications would be beneficial:

• ADR (Carriage of dangerous goods), Emergency Response Driver, MHE/Fork Lift Truck
