News Editor and Feature Writer

We're seeking an experienced and proactive News and Features journalist to write captivating content that appeals to our audience.

Join our dynamic team at DESIblitz.com, the leading online lifestyle and news publication targeting the South Asian community in the UK and globally. Become an influential member of the editorial team that produces daily content for this multi-award-winning publication.

In this role, you'll be responsible daily for sourcing and publishing daily entertainment and lifestyle news stories utilising social media and reliable sources. You will write or edit an original feature article for a given section of the publication.

Training in our house style and journalism standards shall be provided for this role, along with other workshops where applicable to develop your skills.

Key Requirements & Responsibilities

• Flexible availability to produce daily news and lifestyle content
• Source and produce 2-3 daily South Asian orientated news stories (Mon-Sun, min. 380-500 words) which will attract audience readership
• Write or edit a weekly feature (long read format) for a publication category
• Manage breaking news and prioritise news output within timescales allowed
• Maintain impeccable UK English, grammar, and punctuation skills
• Ensure the accuracy of facts and reliability of sources for news stories
• Attend regular weekly news editorial meetings
• Confidently do interviews with celebrities and the public
• Represent the brand in an editorial capacity
• Promote your published stories on social media to increase readership

Qualifications & Experience

• Experience working in a news editorial or journalist role preferred
• Knowledge of South Asian lifestyle, Bollywood celebrities, streaming platforms, Pakistani dramas, films, music, arts, food, etc. desirable
• A high standard of UK English and writing skills
• Outstanding research skills with an eye for news story angles
• Excellent organisation and communication skills
• A proven ability to think quickly and react to the needs of a 24/7 online publication environment
• Experience in using a content management system such as WordPress
• Ability to crop, adjust and edit images and photos - basic Photoshop abilities
• Knowledge of social media tools - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube
