Location: Uttoxeter – Elkes Biscuits

Salary: £45,000 per annum

Elkes Biscuits are seeking an experienced and diligent Occupational Health advisor to join the team at their Uttoxeter Bakery

The company has real heritage in both the local area and also within the industry. In the early 1900s Samuel Elkes opened a confectionery shop in Uttoxeter and in 1928 a purpose-built biscuit factory was opened on the current site. The bakery is known for the biscuit barrel and is the home of the Malted Milk biscuits along with producing Ginger biscuits, Farley's Rusks, Custard Creams, Oaties and Digestives. We provide retailer own label biscuits to all the major retailers including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Lidl in addition to the Elkes brand.

About the role:

We are looking for someone who is able to combine the ‘family feel’ for which Elkes is well known with the ability to make critical decisions at times. The Occupational Health Advisor (OHA) will deliver an effective and proactive full OH service to ensure organisational effectiveness by supporting line managers to manage all aspects of health and wellbeing amongst their teams. Always working within relevant company policies and procedures and in line with legal requirements, group standards and current best practice, they will contribute to the effective development of OH strategy, practices, and policies in line with business strategy.

The successful candidate will have experience in a similar Occupational Health position ideally within a Manufacturing environment. They must have excellent administration and organizational skills and be able to operate confidently within this stand-alone position.

Duties of the role will include:

• Undertake new starter medicals for all new starters
• Carry out all health surveillance – audiometry, spirometry, young workers, night workers, vulnerable employees, WAH, confined spaces etc.
• Oversee First Aider activity and review OH activity and protocols
• To champion and lead health improvement campaigns in line with an agreed schedule, utilising the on-site physiotherapist as required
• Assist in the drawing up of risk assessments and participate in the management of absence providing advice, guidance and support to managers and HR as required
• Assist the H&S Manager in accident investigation and reduction programmes
• Provide epidemiology stats and reports on illness and injury frequency, and issues
• Complete own admin / manage own diary and workload

About you

• Relevant Occupational Health qualifications / NMC registration
• Previous experience in a similar position ideally within the FMCG or Manufacturing Sector
• Ability to communicate across all levels of the business
• Proactive approach
• Ability to self-motivate and self-manage according to given timescales
• Collaborative approach to OH
