The Role – Retail Assistant / Visitor Experience Assistant

As a Retail Assistant / Visitor Experience Assistant, you’ll provide an engaging and informative experience for all visitors including, ensuring they always receive a high standard of customer service.

You will primarily be working within our retail outlets across the Zoo, including within the Gruffalo Discovery Land and Lorikeet Landing, however, you will be trained to assist in other guest service areas to provide cover as needed.

Your duties will vary but may include:

• Carrying out tasks across the commercial operation including, working within the retail outlets, assisting guests with the green screen attraction, stock replenishment and customer enquiries
• Cash handling, operating a till accurately and efficiently and adhering to cash procedures
• Offering information to visitors on the venue and its products, including memberships, adoptions, events and offers
• Achieving targets set by ensuring high shop floor standards, great stock availability and upselling

There may also be opportunities for people with a creative interest to take on face painting and visitor photography duties as part of this role.

Our Requirements

• Access to some form of private transport is essential as local public transport timetables are not fitting with hours of work
• A flexible approach to tasks and hours (able and willing to work at least one weekend day per week and 4 or 5 days per week during school holidays)
• Confident, friendly and enthusiastic with amazing communication skills
• Passion for delivering excellent customer service
• Strong work ethic with willingness to learn
• Punctual, reliable, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team and unsupervised

Although not essential, first aid certification and experience gained in a retail environment (including shop floor and stock room or warehouse duties) are highly desirable.

Successful applicants will be employed until the 5th of September 2023 with the potential for this to be extended or become permanent. You’ll work on a contract with a minimum of 7.5 hours per week guaranteed (although likely to be considerably more hours available up to 5 days per week, especially during school holidays).
