We are looking for a Senior Mining Engineer who will be responsible for developing mine plans, methods, design, and materials handling. Reporting to the Principal Mining Engineer and working in a diverse team within the Copper Technical team, you will be:

• Responsible in the development of mine plans, methods, design, and materials handling
• Optimising long and medium-term mine plan and schedule, by using relevant software
• Responsible for risk management, including monitoring performance against targets
• Handling complex technical assignments and analysing current engineering processes, systems and procedures
• Responsible for the reporting of shortcomings and suggesting improvements to optimise the mine

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
• Degree qualified in Mining Engineering or related discipline
• Experienced in mining and planning environments, and practical experience in open pit mining operations, engineering and project evaluation
• Knowledge of mine planning software such as Vulcan, Datamine, Whittle, Deswick or other mine development software
• Experienced in mine equipment selection, capital cost and operating cost estimates
• Success in this role requires a high degree of communication, interpersonal, relationship building and influencing skills
• Strong leadership skills including fostering effective teamwork and leveraging capability across different groups
• Capability in French and English language (written and or spoken) is considered advantageous.
• International or African experience will be an asset

Where you’ll be working

The Senior Mining Engineer for the Simandou project is based in London, UK. The project also has an office in Conakry, Guinea and a project office at the mine site near Beyla located approx. 650km East of Conakry in the Simandou Ranges.

The project is owned by Simfer S.A. which is a joint venture owned by Rio Tinto (45.05%), Chinalco (39.95%) and the Government of Guinea (15%). Rio Tinto is the nominated operator of the Simandou ore block 3 and 4. Blocks 3 an 4 in the Simandou ranges represent one of the most significant untapped, high grade iron ore deposits today, with an indicated resource in excess of 1.7Bt.

The mine will create several thousand direct and indirect jobs, with an economic value of several billion dollars over the estimated mine life. Simandou will also serve as an engine for economic growth, and use best practices to create a safe, sustainable, and environmentally friendly operation. The iron ore from the mine will be used to produce vital products that modern society depends upon, such as electric vehicles, renewable energy infrastructure, buildings and bridges.
