Software Test Engineer

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Software Test Engineer to join our Information Services and Platforms team.

You'll play a key role as a member of our tightly integrated DevOps teams in which you'll get hands-on with the quality assurance of our software solutions across these and other projects.

You will be responsible for:

• Contributing to test plans and strategies
• Creating test cases
• Executing test cases and capture evidence
• Contributing to test execution reports and dashboards
• Continually developing your skills and experience through a combination of formal and on-the-job learning

What makes this role unique:

As part of the Information Services and Platforms team we’re looking for a Software Test Engineer to join our collaborative and high performing group of professionals. Curious? Take a look at some of our Software Engineers and Solution Architects!

Our work spans projects that cover everything from enterprise level solutions for critical national infrastructure to rapid R&D prototyping across multiple domains. We regularly solve problems involving the ingestion, storage, and processing of data at scale, both in real-time and batch. On top of this we design and implement APIs and UIs that deliver insights through engaging website and mobile user interfaces. Following are examples of our products/platforms that our teams have been developing and enhancing: -

Quartz: a website and mobile app for front-line staff and management within train operating companies. It provides operational insights and supports the monitoring and improvement of network performance. We process and store all train movements in the UK in near real-time, on which we apply a combination of stream & batch analytics.

Infrastructure Monitoring: an IoT- based solution that ingests large amounts of data from numerous and varied sensors to oversee and track the health of complex infrastructure assets. This data is combined with machine learning to aid the detection of anomalous events that can be used to predict failures.

Data Capture: our highly configurable solution to enable the structured collection and storage of data from operational staff, with which we can perform customised reporting and analytics. Currently we’re working in the Rail and Highways sectors, both internally and on external projects, providing the technology to manage the entire life cycle of inspection regimes for these civil infrastructure assets.

We are also working on large high-profile programmes across a number of clients including Network Rail and National Highways.

• Proven experience and evidence of success in a similar role.
• Experience of writing and executing test cases especially using Microsoft technologies such as .NET and DevOps.
• Experience of automated testing will be highly advantageous
• Experience of tools including SpecFlow, Gherkin, Visual Studio, Git, Swagger, Postman etc will be highly advantageous
• Experience of UI testing using frameworks such as Selenium will be highly advantageous
• Experience/Familiarity with agile/scrum delivery.
• Any skills in spatial data/GIS would be advantageous.
• Experience of testing data/charting heavy dashboards will be advantageous.
• Self-motivated individual with good organisation and communication skills.
• Desire to continuously develop skills and acquire new technical competence along with a willing, enthusiastic and flexible approach to working.
