Trainee CAD Technician

Role Overview

Tecsew is a long-established firm which has always been based at Lee-on-Solent on the new Daedalus Solent Enterprise Zone. After more than 40 years of trading it is gaining an enviable worldwide reputation for the quality of its yacht canopies and other marine textiles. We have always worked with prestigious Yacht and Boat Importers on brand new vessels and providing them with canopies, designed, manufactured and fitted by us.

We have launched a new company venture which includes design and manufacture of Garden Canvas Covers for outbuilding, gazebos, lean to and other outdoor structures.

We will also be looking to grow a new venture based around outdoor upholstery.

We are now in need for a Trainee CAD Designer who will work alongside the design team to fulfill the fast-growing Garden Canvas side of the business as well as the primary Yacht canopy business. This candidate will learn CAD and Parametric designs which are currently used by our Design Team. The parametric design is not currently taught in schools and universities.

In particular, the successful candidate can expect to:

• Learn to use 3D scanning technology to scan Boats
• Learn the different types of marine covers and garden canvas covers.
• Get involved in the initial discussion of the cover design with clients
• Learn first-hand the CAD design of new marine covers for newly built yachts/motorboats and also deal with new design for new outbuilding or gazebos.
• Once experience has been gained, meet customers on site to discuss designs of covers after being drawn up on 3D CAD and get approval from the customers to start production
• Oversee the manufacturing process of the covers which you have designed with the Floor Manager and other staff on the factory floor and the fitting staff
• Get involved in further Research and Development work in the design and manufacturing processes
• The successful candidate will learn all aspects of the manufacturing processes of our renowned quality products.
• Successful Candidate will be required to work on-site at out offices at Daedalus Park

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to learn the 3D CAD drawing skills which are unique to our industry. As far as we know, Tecsew is the only Company in the world who has managed to develop the skills to produce 3D CAD drawings of covers to be fitted to new yachts and boats giving the customers opportunities to approve the designs before anything is cut!

Essential Criteria:

• Have studied a broad set of computing modules preferably CAD designs and models.
• Able to communicate clearly and confidently especially with customers and other members of staff
• Microsoft Office skills.
• Team player
• Clean UK Driving License

Desirable Criteria:

• Knowledge and/or experience of Rhino operating system or any other CAD 3D design applications
• An interest in yachts and boats

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £21,000.00-£25,000.00 per year

The factory is large therefore social distancing is easily manageable. Hand sanitising stations are strategically placed all over the factory.

Experience:

• AutoCAD: 1 year (preferred)
• CAD: 1 year (preferred)
• CAD in the marine industry: 1 year (required)
