Who we are:
West Midlands Police Museum exists to celebrate the policing heritage of the West Midlands, and use it to engage with communities to build trust and confidence in policing. At the West Midlands Heritage Museum, we have renovated an old overnight holding station to now be a beacon of history, educating visitors through our many interactive displays. We have information on how WMP has evolved over time, pieces of equipment used by police officers through time and even a mystery for our visitors to solve when they explore the lower level. We are open up to seven days a week for general opening, school visits, corporate events, talks and guided tours.
Why we need your help:
We re-opened in April 2022 after extensive refurbishment and are looking for new and innovative ways to grow our audience, reach more people and ensure our events are well attended. Our marketing budget is very limited, so it is important that we identify cost-effective or free ways to reach new audiences of all ages, engage them with innovative content and ensure the museum is seen as an attractive visitor attraction.
Responsibilities:
We are looking for a team of enthusiastic volunteers to assist us with any of the following:

Hours:
We are looking for volunteers to commit at least 16 hours per month ideally for a minimum of 3 months. Time and date to be agreed with the department supporting the volunteer.
West Midlands Police is a Disability Confident Leader - the highest level an organisation can achieve under the scheme run by the Department of Work and Pensions. As part of our commitment we operate a ‘Disability Confident Interview Scheme’ - all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be offered an interview.
It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people who meet the essential criteria for the job. For example: in certain recruitment situations such as high-volume, seasonal and high-peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people. In these circumstances, the employer could select the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job, as they would do for non-disabled applicants.
